How to view all unread mails in gmail

For many of us, we have a hard time keeping our mailbox to 0 unread mails.
The worst part is that once is a while if you try to filter by the unread mails, gmail doesn't provide this option out of the box. Because of this you would have some unread mails stuck up from the past which is not easily navagatable by the paging option.

But once you know the command to filter by its an easy task to filter by unread mails and see all the unread mails.

The trick is to search by the label "unread". For this, in the search box type the following:
label:unread
This would filter out all the unread mails in your mailbox. You can also use combination searches; for instance if you want to seach all unread mails from your inbox you can type in the search box as:
in:inbox label:unread

There are many more search options google provide, but not out of the box via the user interface.

Happy cleaning up your gmail mailbox.

What is the difference between Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Pro Pack

To keep it simple, Windows 8 Pro Pack is a subset of Windows 8 Pro.

Windows 8 Pro= Windows 8 + Windows 8 Pro Pack

Windows 8 Pro Pack is actually an add on package which contains softwares like Windows Media Center. It is a separate package because Windows 8 by default doesn't have Media Center. So after installing Windows 8 you will have to download and install Windows 8 Pro Pack to get media Center.
For a limited time (Jan 31 2013), you can download Windows 8 Pro Pack for free from the microsoft site. It si called Feature pack. Here is the link: Download Windows 8 Pro Pack (Feature Pack)

Note: Initially Microsoft had mentioned that Media center would come built in with Windows 8. But later they changed plans because of changes in codec licensing charges and other business scenario changes.

Google Drive - Review - Cloud Storage

Google Drive has made entry into the cloud storage service prepared to compete with Dropbox, Skydrive, Sugar Sync, Box and other online/cloud storage services. It is a replacement for Google docs. Yes its a replacement, so for many of you who already have been using Google Docs, its an extended version of Google Docs. The service lets you store your files online and access it from anywhere and everywhere you are. You can access it from your computer or phone or tablet.

Dropbox - Cloud Storage Review

Dropbox has been the favorite for many. The reasons are obvious. Simplisity and usability. You save a file to your folder and voila.. its accessible from around the globe and its there as part of your folder structure on any machines that has your Dropbox account configured.  Moreover its naturality is something that pulls any users into it in no time. You don't use a separate client software to manage your dropbox files. Its part of your windows or mac folder structure and the small indicators on the corner of the folder icon is pretty handy to know the state of the sync. Also it has got client softwares on all popular platforms. PC/MAC/iOS/Android. Hopefully we can expect a client for windows mobile soon. Apple iCloud is also worth mentioning, but the drawback is the platform dependancy. Its only supported on Mac and iOS and the features are less as the purpose is kind of specific. Dropbox are the ones who showed the others how to do it.

Microsoft SkyDrive by far offers the cheapest service. SkyDrive is integrated with Office Web Apps. It has a desktop client and works similar to Dropbox.

Apple iCloud cannot be compared to other online file storage services because iCloud is intended for some specific purposes. It is rather for the developers and the service is exposed and accessible via APIs. This enables iOS and OSx developers to use iCloud to store application data on the cloud. Apple's service will take care of the synchronization across devices. The main drawback of icloud is it lacks cross-platform support.

Box is popular within corporates rather than among the public. Box has some features exclusive to it. Box's enterprise plans support Active Directory / LDAP. It is also the most expensive service when compared to its counterparts.

How to use Google Drive

How to use Google Drive

Google Drive has made entry into the cloud storage service prepared to compete with Dropbox, Skydrive, Sugar Sync, Box and other online/cloud storage services. This is a free web based service from Google and its a replacement for Google docs. Yes its a replacement, so for many of you who already have been using Google Docs, its an extended version of Google Docs. The service lets you store your files online and access it from anywhere and everywhere you are. You can access it from your computer or phone or tablet.

To get start and use Google Drive. Go to Google Drive page at drive.google.com. You will see a screen like below.

If you already have a google account (gmail / youtube or any other google account), you can login. You will be taken to the gmail like looking Google Drive file browser. You will notice that your Google Docs files are already imported to your Google Drive.

Next step is to download and install Google Drive Desktop Application for your PC. You can find it in the Notifications area. If you can't find it there you can download it from https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive

Once the desktop application installation is over, you can find the shortcut to the Google Drive folder on your desktop/laptop Favorites section in the Windows Explorer. It automatically syncs your existing files and folders with your local system.

So far I have noticed that the sync process initially and later on is slower than drop box, may be because google servers have a higher load.

Google Drive - Windows 7 Download - Desktop App

How to download Google Drive Desktop Application for Windows 7

This is the age of online or cloud storage. Google Drive is the latest evolved form of this technology from Google. You can store your personal documents on the cloud/internet and access it from anywhere. This facility is of great help when you use multiple devices or gadgets. You can save your personal files in your office laptop in specific folder on your laptop linked to Google Drive. You can later access it from your home PC or iPhone or iPad or any tablets. Its all so easy and convenient. Forget about your USB storage and file transfers and messy syncing.
When I decided to use Google Drive, the main concern was that I couldn't find the client software to download and install on my Windows 7 machine. I searched online and check Google sources in vain. May be Google has not started giving it out to the public.
Finally I managed to find the download link here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive
